RRS How to deal with novelty in new technology research

How do you do user research when your product doesn’t have any users to research? It’s a problem that we run into when we’re studying new technologies. In this talk, I'll describe some of the challenges with new and inexperienced users that I've run into doing research in the field of virtual reality. Talking about virtual reality is very different from being in it, so how can we get meaningful, actionable learnings about a novel experience that people have never had before?

I'll share some strategies that I've found to be helpful, and that other researchers can apply to their work on new and emerging technologies, as well as looking at the pros and cons of each.
